~Mun Contact Info~ E-mail: my.resonating.light@gmail.com. AIM: wingsareblack77 Name: Sydney "Syd" Drew. Age: Eighteen or nineteen. Hair Color: Blond. Eye Color: Blue. Timeline: After episode 34, “Badge”. The significance of this for Syd is that, in my opinion, the aftermath of their working together to defeat Ichthion was that they became even closer as a team and that much better at working together. But also, I think being defeated as she, Sky, and Bridge originally were, would be a bit of a sore point for her. So my reasons in taking her from after this episode are two-fold – one, that she would feel closer to her fellow rangers, and two, that she would still feel ashamed of having been beaten so badly.
Personality
Sydney Drew, or Syd, comes from a privileged background. Her parents were very wealthy, and although the details of Syd’s childhood are not very clear, it can be assumed that she grew up having everything she could ever want or need. She has the tendency to act like a spoiled child but once you get past that, Syd is loyal, caring, and a real friend. When she isn’t fighting aliens or robots as the Pink Ranger, she can often be found lounging about SPD headquarters, fixing her hair, makeup, clothes, or nails. Everything has to be kept perfect. Early on in the series, Syd appears to be very shallow and only concerned with her appearance. However, as the series goes on, Syd matures and becomes less self-absorbed. She learns several valuable lessons, such as the value of friendship, how to work as part of a team, and to never give up on someone just because they might be different or perceived as useless. Syd has some pluses and minuses that make up her personality. For one thing, she made the decision to trade in her stylish life of fashion and prestige for the chance to become a Power Ranger and help people through this. She adapted quickly to the Power Ranger lifestyle, displaying a true strength of character. Also, Syd has the tenacity and determination to use whatever resources available to her to handle any and all challenges that are thrown her way. In most cases, she has been known to rise above them all and come out a stronger person than before. Also, it is important to note that Syd is no pushover. She believes strongly in standing up for her friends, but in spite of her proper and girly appearance, she is determined to show the male Rangers (Jack, Sky, and Bridge) that she is just as capable, resourceful, and strong as they are. The important thing here is to not judge Syd based on her appearance or underestimate her, because she is definitely “more than meets the eye.” As for the drawbacks to Syd’s personality, she is more than a little spoiled. She dislikes having to do trivial chores such as laundry, and hates having to share a room (she rooms with Elizabeth “Z” Delgado). She can be annoying at times, because she repeatedly complains or comments about her appearance and sometimes uses her quick wit to make stinging remarks about the appearance of the SPD headquarters or about her friends (although she usually does this only with Z). But Syd’s willingness to admit to making mistakes when she realizes them as well as her lack of hesitation to try and right whatever wrongs she’s caused far outweighs her weak points. She is a strong young woman and a dedicated Ranger and friend.
History
Sydney Drew’s date of birth is unknown, as is her real age, however, she appears to be in her teens. She was born to very wealthy parents, and as such had a privileged childhood with more money and possessions than a girl could hope for. As for specific events that occurred while Syd was growing up, these are unclear, but her parents obviously cared for their daughter very much. They provided her with a place to live, and the opportunity to pursue the things that she was interested in. Syd was taught the conventional school subjects as well as some extracurricular activities such as fencing. And, with the encouragement of her family, as well as thanks to their money, Syd became a famous pop star and model, excelling at both these things. Syd gained the abilities she currently has thanks to an experiment performed by her parents and those of her friends Jack, Sky, Bridge, and Z. It turned out that their parents were employed by S.P.D., and were directly involved in creating the Delta Morphers, which altered their children’s DNA. Because of this, Syd received the ability to transform her hands into any material that she touched. Later, she eventually became an S.P.D. Ranger (assigned to be the Pink Ranger with the number five) along with Schuyler “Sky” Tate and Bridge Carson. They were joined later by Jack Landors and Elizabeth “Z” Delgado. The first that we see of Syd is in the middle of a debriefing session. Their mission was to arrest two thieves known as the Parkington Market thieves. In the confrontation that resulted between the Rangers and the thieves, each side discovered that the other had special powers. Jack Landors, one of the thieves, had the ability to remolecularize himself and pass through solid objects, while Elizabeth “Z” Delgado was able to create copies of herself. In the middle of the fight, the rangers learned that Jack and Z were stealing only to help the poor, but of course they had a mission to complete and so letting them go was not an option. Jack and Z escape but the Rangers don’t give up, and confront them again, hoping to arrest them, but in the process are interrupted by Krybots, and are forced to morph: Sky into the Blue Ranger, Bridge into the Green Ranger, and Syd into the Pink Ranger. For reasons of their own, Jack and Z decided to lend a hand to the Rangers, and eventually they were defeated. But even though the thieves helped out, Sky refused to let them off and brought them back to S.P.D. headquarters where they were put into a cell. The commander of S.P.D. then went to speak to Jack and Z, where he gave them the chance to become a part of something that was bigger than just stealing and living on the streets. Z accepted but Jack was a harder sell. When the other Rangers learn that Z decided to join them, they appeared less than enthusiastic, but Commander Cruger ordered them to work as a team. Eventually, Cruger, after having spoken with Jack and convincing him to join the Rangers, gives him a Morpher, enabling him to become the Red Ranger, something that upset Spike very much. But there was not very much time for arguing, as the Rangers were attacked and needed to fight. They managed to work together to defeat the robot that attacked them, and Cruger congratulated them for doing well but also warned them that they have a very long way to go. Life continues on as usual, with Jack discovering what being a leader means, while the other Rangers are learning that perhaps they don’t want Jack as their leader, simply because he appears to be unfit for the job. But arguments or no arguments, their work still remained, and so they still had to work together on their usual assignments. However, while he still fought with his team, Spike’s heart was not in it. He was angry that Jack was the Red Ranger and that he was not, and so he refused to participate in any of the group’s leisurely activities. But the last straw for him came when Jack and Bridge were given more powerful motorcycles. However, after the usual fight to stop their enemies, Sky comes around and finally stops sulking, although at this point he hasn’t quite accepted Jack yet. In a sort of side plot featuring Syd and RIC (his name stands for robotic interactive canine, and he serves as S.P.D.’s police dog), their relationship is put to the test as RIC makes a nuisance of himself around the base, even going so far as to slobber all over her treasured stuffed elephant Peanuts. Things get worse when Syd goes off on the trail of the perpetrator responsible for a plan to turn people into slime, thanks to the use of a chemical. At first, she is annoyed to find that RIC has tagged along, but she changes her tune quickly when she is attacked by Krybots and RIC tries to rescue her. But unfortunately for the robot dog, he is badly damaged in the process, and the only option left for him is to be discarded. However, Syd has no intention of allowing this to happen, after RIC saved her, so she commissions Bridge and Boom (S.P.D.’s assistant technical person) to repair him. After his successful repair, the Rangers and RIC go back into battle, where they make use of RIC’s new abilities (especially canine cannon, which is… Well, a canine cannon) which allow them to win the fight. Syd’s and RIC’s relationship has now been solidified and from this point in the story, they both have a soft spot for each other. The next most important episode in Syd’s history takes place on her birthday. Jack is given orders to go on a stakeout, and choose one other Ranger to go with him. He picks Syd, knowing that it’s her birthday and that she has special plans with her family. But the reason why he chose her was because she had bragged about it and admitted to not planning on inviting the other Rangers to her party. She reluctantly accompanied Jack, and as they kept the stakeout going, their friendship began to develop further. It wasn’t until after the stakeout and everything else (including the usual fight against the “bad guy”) was over that Syd learned that Jack did not know his birthday. To everyone’s surprise, and perhaps to Syd’s as well, she tells Jack that he can share her birthday. He is extremely taken aback, but also very grateful. After this, it was just normal life for the Rangers, fighting and defeating each enemy that happened to come their way. But their teamwork mentality gradually began to disintegrate, and their arguing increased. Finally, Commander Cruger had enough of listening to his Rangers fight, and sent them to another planet called Zentour for training. There, they had to work together and learn to cooperate as a team in order to receive a powerful upgrade called S.W.A.T. They eventually succeeded and gained the upgrade and an increased closeness and trust in each other. But that closeness and teamwork that they had worked so hard to develop was nearly destroyed in their next fight together. An old rival of Commander Cruger’s showed up, and was determined to use the Rangers to get to him. Sky, Bridge, Syd, Commander Cruger, and the Omega Ranger (a Ranger from the future) all went up against Ichthior and were badly injured as a result. But after they were almost all defeated, they managed to pull themselves together and come out with a win against Ichthior. From that point on, the Rangers moved forward, working as a team, but working collectively through their pitfalls and struggles. It was not a walk in the park, but together with each other’s support and that of those in charge of S.P.D., they stuck together and pulled through on quite a few occasions.
